Growth for Everyone
NFI is dedicated to creating opportunities for career mobility, empowering employees to explore new roles and advance within the organization. Through internal promotions and cross-functional experiences, we provide pathways for growth and long-term success.
What is Career Mobility?
Career Mobility is a strategic approach to talent management that prioritizes the movement and cross-divisional development of employees within our company. It's about creating opportunities for growth, fostering skill enhancement, increasing employee engagement, and maximizing the potential of every team member. Whether that be moving laterally to explore a new business, being promoted cross-divisionally, or even moving sites for a similar role that better fits the needs of our employees, Career Mobility allows us to reimagine employee development at NFI.
In short, Career Mobility facilitates the strategic flow of our workforce across business divisions by empowering employees to own their own development.

What is Cross Divisional Development?
Cross divisional development encourages employees to explore their next opportunity in a business line other than their own by hiring not for technical knowledge, but transferable skills. For example, a Logistics Coordinator might explore an Inventory Control job in Distribution, a Warehouse Supervisor can explore a leadership role in Transportation, an Office Manager from Port Services might explore an opportunity in Human Resources, etc. Our goal is to open diverse pathways for development by allowing employees to build new skills in different areas of the business.

Career Mobility Success Spotlights
“Moving business units really kind of opened my world. I know Asset Based Transportation kind of like the back of my hand. But just being in a shared service environment, I get to work with other people in Distribution, in Real Estate, and see how they operate on a day to day basis.”
Allison Geist - Operations Support Manager, Asset Based Transportation to Senior Invoicing Manager, Finance
“Being able to work with multiple systems, multiple people, different vendors and customers, and now being in Property Management it brings a whole new light. But I’m still able to bring my previous knowledge from being in Distribution to Real Estate”
Kacey Wojnar - Warehouse Clerk to Senior Property Admin
“My skills with drivers, they really used my knowledge of drivers, and it made me realize that your skills are transferable"...“You have skills that you don’t realize apply to other roles. It’s not just having the exact experience”
Marianne Jennings - Dispatcher, Transportation to Senior Talent Acquisition Partner
“When I started with NFI, I had never worked in a warehouse before. It was just a job to get me through school. And then I ended up wanting to learn more and I wanted to know anything and everything that anyone would teach me. What that led to was that when opportunities came up, I jumped in with both feet…one of the greatest things that I think that anyone can do with their career is never stop exploring.”
Heather Driscoll - Office Manager to Human Resources Business Partner
“I was looking for opportunities to work with different leaders and work with those leaders to improve my own leadership skills, and moving to the port services business unit has allowed me to do just that.”
Herb Ng - Regional Vice President of Warehouse Operations to Vice President of Transload Operations
“NFI has given me the opportunity to grow within my career. And what motivates me is to develop others, to teach others, to provide them with the knowledge that I have gained throughout the years. Also to have those leaders that care and provide the time and opportunity.”
Janet Sanchez - Customer Service Representative to Regional Human Resources Manager
“I’ve enjoyed each transition to new organizational units throughout my time at NFI because they’ve all been challenging and engaging. The most surprising thing that comes along with each of these changes is just how much support and help you get from the leaders and the team members that help you transition into your new role”
John Coleman - Management Trainee to Senior Manager of Information Technology, Transportation
“This experience is allowing me to see how there is a big network of connection and support within NFI across the whole company. I have a better view of the big picture.”
Maria Beck - Office Manager to Human Resources Business Partner
“I recommend anyone that is interested in growing their skillset and contributing to the company to explore opportunities for growth.”
Nataki Davis - Director of Warehouse Operations to Senior Director of Transload Operations
